Gutters are only as good as what they're hung on — rotted fascia undermines even a brand-new gutter system.
Fascia boards are what your gutters and gutter hangers are actually fastened to. When fascia is soft, rotted, or delaminating — usually from years of water intrusion behind an aging or poorly pitched gutter — hangers no longer hold securely, and even a properly installed gutter can start to sag or pull away. We routinely find fascia damage during gutter inspections, especially on older homes where gutters weren't maintained for several years before the current owner.
Soffit is the material under the roof overhang, and it plays a role beyond appearance: it houses intake ventilation that lets outside air into the attic, which works with roof/ridge vents to keep attic temperature closer to outside temperature. Damaged, sagging, or blocked soffit reduces that airflow, which matters for the attic-ventilation side of ice dam prevention in Michigan winters.
We repair or replace only the damaged sections where possible rather than defaulting to a full tear-off, using rot-resistant or aluminum-clad fascia material matched to your home's existing trim.
